Summer Camp 2018 Overview

Our six-week summer camp is divided into weekly themes.  Each theme stands alone as a unique project-based learning experience.  Each week also offers a new and exciting opportunity to engage Ho Chi Minh City’s most progressive learning environment.  Students will interact with the weekly theme through a fun mix of sports, team-building, activities, cooking classes, weekly projects and Life-skills. The goal of each weekly theme is to expose students to unique learning opportunities.  These individual learning experiences will help guide students on their larger journey as lifelong learners.

Summer Camp is open to students from all schools from 5 to 15 years old

Weekly themes

Week 1 (18 – 22 June) – INNOVATION ``Think Big``

Think Big is about INNOVATION where children will take on New Challenges and develop a growth mindset that will enable them to rise above their own expectations.

We challenge students to new ways of thinking as they learn what it means to “think outside the box!”

Main Topic Areas:

  • Emotional Intelligence (EQ vs IQ)
  • Thinking outside the Box

 

Life Skills & Core Vales Focus – Positivity

Life skills activity sessions, through engaging fun activities, will connect students to weekly core values.  These sessions are designed to have practical understanding and outcomes for children that can be applied to their everyday life.

CHANGE will present their action project designed to combat plastic waste in the community.  iChange Plastics Project (21-day plan) will have both interesting and educational value for students to motivate them to influence change in behavior towards plastic use in their family.

INGO will introduce students to the world of traditional ‘color making’ with natural paints and art techniques.

 

Cooking –  Jamie Oliver

Fun in the kitchen inspired by our ‘chefs of the week’! Students will learn about various baking and cooking styles and techniques.  From sweet to savory (with a focus on healthy options), I guarantee you will see happy little chefs coming home with their cooking delights for you to sample!

Week 2 (25 – 29 June) – TECHNOLOGY ``Take on the Future``

With a focus on TECHNOLOGY our STEM-focused week looks at the fundamental tech skills necessary for future success.  This survey of tech “hard skills” will be balanced with a fun exploration of the uniquely human element found in the Arts.

Students will be exploring our relationship with the technology of tomorrow’s world!

  • The Importance of the Arts

 

Life Skills & Core Vales Focus – Open-Mindedness

Life skills activity sessions, through engaging fun activities, will connect students to weekly core values.  These sessions are designed to have practical understanding and outcomes for children that can be applied to their everyday life.

Aqua Grow Greens will introduce students to the unique design and creation of personal hydroponics; growing fresh, nutritious greens.  Each student will have their very own hydroponic kit to take home and teach their families how to grow fresh greens!

CHANGE the second week of the iChange Plastics Project (21-day plan) with students engaged in their action project to influence change in behavior towards plastic use in their family.

 

Cooking –  Christine Ha

Week 3 (02 – 06 July) – INNOVATION ``Green Solutions``

Focusing on INNOVATION learn how to creatively turn problems into opportunities in real and meaningful ways.  Imagine turning smog into diamonds, imagine that this was already happening! – well it is…and if we can do this, imagine what else we can do!

 

Students will engage our global community at the local level and meet Ho Chi Minh City’s green innovators to look at Clean Air!

 

Main Topic Areas:

  • Turning pollution into diamonds
  • How do we clean the air?
  • Alternatives to using plastic

 

Life Skills & Core Vales Focus –   Respect

Life skills activity sessions, through engaging fun activities, will connect students to weekly core values.  These sessions are designed to have practical understanding and outcomes for children that can be applied to their everyday life.

Activities Eco Partners

WAVE introducing a plant-based alternative to plastic.  Students will see how replacement to plastic can have such a positive effect as they experience some fun, educational experiments.

AQblue innovation in pollution mask technology; students will look at how to further innovate on the design of the mask and packaging, which will then be considered by AQblue to modify their commercial design for production.

CHANGE the final week of the iChange Plastics Project (21-day plan) with students examining results from their actions at school and at home.

 

Cooking –  Organik House

Week 4 (09 – 13 July) – HOLISTIC WELLNESS ``Just be You``

Students relate to mindfulness to explore what they are passionate about and do something great with it.  Mindfulness is a holistic concept, one that is enhanced by an active, healthy lifestyle.  We will provide age-appropriate easy-to-learn, easy-to-apply application for children to increase their general wellbeing.

Life Skills & Core Vales Focus –   Creativity & Confidence

Life skills activity sessions, through engaging fun activities, will connect students to weekly core values.  These sessions are designed to have practical understanding and outcomes for children that can be applied to their everyday life.

Lik innovation through eco-wooden blocks from sustainable forest systems.  The blocks are used creatively to produce wooden objects (games, puzzles & toys), connecting students with nature in the process.  Students will take home their own creation.

First Aid Simple First Aid application for children. Students learn ‘not to panic’ and how to do some very simple things in a situation requiring the need to help someone.  This could be what to do if their friend falls and bangs their head, or falling off their bike and hurting their leg or arm etc.

Week 5 (16 – 20 July) – CREATIVITY ``Leadership``

Be CREATIVE, be CONFIDENT, learn how to use original ideas and explore how creativity can produce confidence and how confidence can create further creativity.

Many fun activities to encourage creative thinking and collaboration to build confidence and team spirit.

Life Skills & Core Vales Focus –   Honesty & Empathy

Life skills activity sessions, through engaging fun activities, will connect students to weekly core values.  These sessions are designed to have practical understanding and outcomes for children that can be applied to their everyday life.

Suzanne Vian Yoga for Wellness will introduce yoga techniques through fun classes with the objective to gain the interest of young students.  Many simple yoga for wellness self-development techniques can be adopted and applied to everyday life to feel happier and be more relaxed.

Emergency 1 what can a young child do in an emergency?  More than you would think! …Children will learn simple and effective skills relating to action to take in an emergency.  This will include learning ways to raise the alarm and get help when needed. 

 

Cooking –  La Holista

Week 6 (23 – 27 July) – COMPASSION ``Heal the World``

HEAL THE WORLD & MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE…

What can we do? What can we change? Are there other ways to do things? Would this make any difference? These questions and more will be explored by young creative, innovative minds in the final week of summer camp.

 

How can we make the world a better place?

 

Our Eco Partners will help students to think about how these questions may be answered by engaging in interesting and fun learning activities.
